And so it begins

And so it begins

This is it. This is what the first stage of writing a novel looks like for me. After years of ruminating (the original kernel for the idea came to me when I was still in high school) and collecting notes on scraps of paper I have finally fixed the plot hole that stopped me from tackling the project before. And today, I began outlining. It doesn't look like much right now and yes, it's pretty old school, but when it comes to brainstorming I still find using pen and paper easier and faster than using a computer.

Essentially each slip of paper is a scene and the different colours are for the different character arcs. Having one scene per sheet makes it easier to rearrange and add in extra bits as I think of them. Once I've got the basic elements broken down into about 80-100 scenes, I then start using an outlning program (I'll be using Plottr this time since Writers Blocks, which I actually prefer is sadly no longer available for Windows 11) where I'll basically repeat the process - creating individual blocks for each scene. Once I've described each scene blow-by-blow (500 words or so) and have got everything in the right order then I export it to Word and the real writing begins.

For now, my working title is Back to Bath, which should give you a clue that this novel is set in England.
